New art: Back Rooms of My Mind Door# 10513

In the middle of working on many projects, it's not always easy to finish when they are all in different stages. I went through a good streak where I was completing a lot of drawings and posting one a week. I have stepped back from cranking out the smaller drawings and have shifted to working on some paintings.

In between paintings and waiting for the paint to dry, I routinely go back my sketch pad. This is where I  allow my mind to go free and conjure up new ideas for future series.

Here is the newest addition to the Back Rooms of My Mind series- Door# 10513
Prints available here.

I was thinking of water coloring this drawing in as I mainly leave them Black & White. If I do decide to work in some watercolor which I feel would really work well with this series, I will post the changes.

Here are some pens I started using for my ink drawings a while back. They are worth buying as they are waterproof and work great!

Update On My New Painting & Happy Mother's Day

Last week I posted about some new art. Not having my computer has made scanning art, posting and updating my on-line archives difficult. The iPod touch has really helped and allowed me to keep posting.......... Things are starting to get weird and I wouldn't have it any other way!

New Artist

I saw some new art this weekend and his paintings really inspired me to create. I don't know too much about the artist but I really love this style and these paintings. I tried searching for the artist and couldn't come up with anything.  Does anyone have any information on this artist?

These colors are great so nice and vibrant. They really standout in a crowded room.

In other news, Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there! Thanks for all you've done Mom!

New Painting and Stretching the Boundaries.

Here's an inspiring and interesting quote from the mad man of an artist Andy Warhol.....
“Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” ― Andy Warhol

Although, I'm not a big fan of his art, however, I like his mentality, he had a great perspective and his thoughts really resonate with me.

I had some old canvas laying around from college and decided to create something new. As you an see in the photo, I started with a light Purple wash but decided not to cover up the entire canvas. I feel that this will add more depth to the painting.

The start of a new painting

I just finished adding a few elements to the painting... What do you think this is going to be? I have a few ideas of what direction I am going to take with this and I am planning on stretching the boundaries a bit. I love starting new paintings like this because it allows me to expand my mind and develop new ideas.

I've been working on this series for a few years now and I don't think I can ever sick of creating them!

In other news, my computer is still down so I haven't been able to scan in any recent creations. That said, I am still finding away to upload my art for the world to see each week! I am hoping to get my computer back soon.

5 Tips For A Better Sleep

For a long time, my favorite time to create art was at night. I was a night owl, staying up until 3-4am and not waking up till 10 or 11am and doing it all over again. I loved those days off from "life" where I could get lost in my own world.

Nowadays, (Sun-Thurs) I have to stick to a schedule and be in bed by a certain time in order to wake up in time to head to work in the morning- (I have to pay the bills after all!)

However, there are lots of nights where my body and mind will not agree with my schedule. Often I am rolling around restless as ideas for new drawings come to the forefront of my mind - no longer in the back rooms of my mind, these ideas are scream at me, insisting that I get them down on paper before they are lost forever. Thankfully, I keep a notebook at arms reach.

They other night, I couldn't get the ideas down and this is all I could get out...

"Can't Sleep" prints available here.

I lay awake waiting for for my mind to turn off. Sometimes it does and sometimes, I just need to turn the light on and get everything out of my mind and down on paper.

Do you have a similar issue? Here are some things I do to try and sleep:

5 Tips For A Better Sleep

1. Have a night cap. Whatever your vice may be, it can sometimes help you get into the proper state of mind to enjoy a nice deep REM sleep. I don't know about you, but I like to have a nice dream or two when I am sleeping.

2. Workout. If you sit at a desk all day and you aren't moving around, how are you suppose to tell your body to "shut down"? It's been on autopilot all day!! Can't afford a gym pass? Go for a walk, jog, hike, run, etc. Walk the dog or walk with the kids, we all know it's hard for some people to do things on their own so, feel free to bring a companion.

I've been working out a lot more over the past year and I find this helps a lot when trying to sleep at night. I also started using Kettle Bells Empower 3-In-1 Kettlebell (Google Affiliate Ad) and this DVD above, is a great dvd that gives you a ton of great information. These exercises are practical and will provide you with functional day to day life strength.

3. No Caffeine! Before bed that is. We all know caffeine keeps you awake and gives you energy. Don't be drinking 2 cups of coffee, a soda and chocolate before you lay down. Give yourself 3-4 hours (this is probably too much) for your body to process everything.

4. Creating the perfect sleeping environment. I don't know about you, but when I go to bed, I like it cold and dark! * I recommend a Lasko 2521 16" Oscillating Stand Fan It works great and keeps me cool while I am dreaming at night!

I also like to have a nice fluffy comforter or "Puff"- don't judge me :) - that I I can wrap myself up in. Believe me, when I do sleep, I don't ever want to wake up! Here's one that you may like: Orvis The Softest Blanket Ever - Yellow (Google Affiliate Ad)

5. Manage your stress. I don't stress out a lot, but I know people that do. Try not to hold on to things that bother you for too long or they will dictate your life. You will dwell on something for too long and it will be with you for a while. If it's really important, write it down and come back to it. Don't sweat the small stuff.

I hope these tips will help you out. I know that everyone's body is different and won't always react the same. Don't forget to speak with your doctor about this sleep issue too. I don't have insomnia and if anyone does, they should definitely consult their physician.

Feel free to post in the comments section and let me and other artists what you do to get a good sleep. Any personal tips or tricks that could be helpful to others would be great!

One a week art project 50 of 52: Back Rooms of My Mind Door #13113

WOW... here we are at week 50!!! Only 2 more posts left till another year of creating art has come to an end. Some days I feel like taking a break, but I've been creating so much art, I know I have to continue on. This One A Week project has been so much fun and it also forces me to take a break from creating and makes me scan, upload, and write. Most artists just want to create, we really don't want to write about are art because it takes us away from creating!

Truth be told, I am actually enjoy the time away from creating as it allows me to reflect on my work and the time it has taken me to create each piece.

I've been using some new pens lately, they are these Pigma Micron Pen Set Assorted 6/Pkg - Black - Scrapbooking (Google Affiliate Ad) and they work great for drawing and then I am able to water coloring over them without any bleeding. *Side note: Sharpie works good too but can sometimes spread easier than pen.

One a week art project 49 of 52: Back Rooms of My Mind Door# 15113

Here is the newest drawing Back Rooms of My Mind Door# 15113.
I love creating these drawings because I come up with some many new ideas for other drawings. For instance, I had started drawing this a few weeks back and I drew the pig that you can see in the top left corner. Once I drew that pig, I knew I wanted make that larger and add some color. This drawing is actually my current cover photo on my Facebook page.

One a week art project 48 of 52: Back Rooms of My Mind Door# 16113

Here is my latest creation from my One A Week Art Project 48 of 52: Back Rooms of My Mind Door# 16113

You have to be in the right kind of mood to enjoy a drawing like this. To draw them you have to let go of reality for a moment and let the mind take over. I have been listening to some audio books lately that have had some inspiring quotes that I had to write down.

One of the quotes I liked in particular is "Fail To Succeed". Think about that for a minute.

Lights of the Night 2

I know this weeks post is a couple days late, but it was a long week and I didn't have to time to get to it so I am getting to it now.

Here is my latest drawing for my one a week art project week 16/52: Lights of the Night 2. The first "Lights of the Night" drawing was created back in November for one TwinGeekzArtProject. I created the original with oil pastels and sold it shortly after as I hung it in the Theater Cafe in Worcester, MA. Here I created the second drawing using watercolor pencils.
Watercolor Pencils 24/Pkg - Assorted - Scrapbooking
I think this looks great and I love how the watercolors make the colors looks so vibrant.

Prints are available here.

Let me know what you think of my latest creation! Also, feel free to follow my on twitter.
